In 2001, Ivan Satirov, the former regional director of the International Association of Prison Service in Eastern Europe, gathered representatives of the largest denominations of Ukraine to unite in a single Mission, which was named the Ukrainian Christian Interfaith Mission “Spiritual and Charitable Care in Places of Imprisonment”.
Today, it includes 10 Christian denominations.
Mission Spiritual and charitable care in places of deprivation of liberty covers all penitentiary institutions of Ukraine. The mission serves inmates, their families, and prison staff. Programs include interfaith worship services, prison poetry contests, Bible quizzes, plays, soccer tournaments, and Christian concerts. The mission invites various musicians and evangelists such as Niki Cruz, Lena-Maria Klingwall, Nina Astrom, Nick Vujicic and others to hold evangelistic concerts
The mission acts as an association of denominations engaged in prison ministry. Each denomination conducts its prison ministry independently, but together they cooperate to guide prisoners to the path of salvation.
9 denominations support about 170 rehabilitation centers. These centers are designed for approximately 3,500 people, who are largely supported by a wide range of volunteers from various professions.
